I was wondering if any of you had used hydrogen peroxide to kill algea. I know people use Excel but I do not want my Val to melt back.

Hello. I have recently set up a tank about 3 weeks ago. I used earthworm castings for the dirt and gravel to cap it. The tank is cycled but now I am having issues with high nitrates. There is no fish in the tank just plants and some snails that came on the plants. I have also having some issues with what looks like green hair algea probably due to the high nitrates. I was wondering if maybe the earthworm castings are leaching nitrtates into the water. If so will this subside or should I tear…

Looking for a place to buy salvinia minima from. If anyone know where I can get some or if any other great floating plants please leave your comments. Looking for something smallish to go into a 20 and a 40 gallon. Perferably not duckweek just because of how difficult it is to get rid of. Anyone with any good ideas please let me know. Thank you

I've been out of the hobby for 10 to 15 years, i kept fresh and salt water fish for 30 years before that. i did try to get some plants growing in a 90 gallon fresh water tank with 4 T12s most just died but one did grow great, think it was water sprite.

I'm not much of a computer person but a friend showed me one of Dustin's you tube videos and i have been watching as many planted tank videos as i can for the last few weeks before setting up a tank.

So i was watching a Q&A Dustin had a week or so ago and one of the questions answer was the problem may be soft water. Where i live in Washington we have very soft water, I plan on a low tech low light 40b tank i bought a stingray light and will get some of Dustin's dirt capped with pool filter sand,

I was wondering if i will need to add minerals to the water i do want to keep some snails, shrimp and a few small tetra fish.

I recently purchased a fluval canister filter for my tank, it turns the tank over about 8 times an hour.how long does it take to build up the beneficial bacteria.I still have the filter that came with the tank going until I know the bacteria is built up in the fluval.I decided to get the fluval when my water was cloudy and wouldn't clear up.I don"t use any kind of chemicals in my tank.I only put in treatments for sick fish when needed and still do regular water changes. Hey, just wanted to introduce myself to the community. I'm active duty army, and don't have the ability to keep any sort of animal. You may ask why I'm here, well I figure I can live through everyone else's experiences. Before the army I worked at a mainstream pet store as a sales associate and my specialty was fresh water fish. I used to think I was knowledgeable, but after reintroducing myself to the community after a couple years and in-between everything I've forgotten, and actually joining…
I used to think I was knowledgeable, but after reintroducing myself to the community after a couple years and in-between everything I've forgotten, and actually joining a community, I'm very excited to learn from you all. Personally I've owned a few aquariums, I had a little 10 gallon to try my hand at different aquascaping techniques, but I had a "built" in the wall 100 gallon planted community tank. I've done some planned tank builds for friends and stuff, but haven't had anything of my own in about 3 years. Home is north west Ohio, but currently stationed in Savannah, Georgia. I'll be back from deployment in around a week, please feel free to hit me up and take me under your wing. Anyway, thanks for having me, and the site seems pretty awesome! I had heard from a freind of mine he use to put tacks into them, But they ended up floating around too.
I have also heard of not feeding them for about 2 months, But i figure that wouldent work too well either.
I am looking for a legitimate way to punish my fish and still ensure that they are learning from this experience, and going to be healthy after they have learned what they have done wrong.

Thank you guys.

Uncle Phil
Plant typetag:fishtanktv.com,2016-09-04:6423219:Topic:9092012016-09-04T18:36:33.497ZBen Halehttp://fishtanktv.com/profile/BenHale
