Hello, I have newly set up dirted tank and now am experience some issues I believe to be some kind of hair algea. It seems to spreading. I was wondering if any of you had used hydrogen peroxide to kill algea. I know people use Excel but I do not want my Val to melt back.

Does h202 work? How should I dose it? What percent should I use? Etc etc. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks.

Hello. I have recently set up a tank about 3 weeks ago. I used earthworm castings for the dirt and gravel to cap it. The tank is cycled but now I am having issues with high nitrates. There is no fish in the tank just plants and some snails that came on the plants. I have also having some issues with what looks like green hair algea probably due to the high nitrates. I was wondering if maybe the earthworm castings are leaching nitrtates into the water. If so will this subside or should I tear…

Looking for a place to buy salvinia minima from. If anyone know where I can get some or if any other great floating plants please leave your comments. Looking for something smallish to go into a 20 and a 40 gallon. Perferably not duckweek just because of how difficult it is to get rid of. Anyone with any good ideas please let me know. Thank you

I've been looking for floating plants to buy. I don't really think I want duckweed because of how hard it can be to get rid of but I've been looking for a place to get salvinia minima but I haven't had any luck finding any. Any idea on where to get them or any other floating plants that are very similar

Hey guys, my name is Antonio.
I was hoping I could find some advise and knowledge here with you all. I've started my first high Tec tank but seem to be confused on some stuff.
Set up:
(I use the 24/7 feature on the Finnex, the second leds turn on along side with the CO2 which is around 10 am and turns off along side the CO2 around 4 pm)
- Pressurized CO2 using a Premium AQUATEK CO2 Regulator with Integrated COOL TOUCH Solenoid
-Cascade 1500 Canister Filter

Question 1: How do I check my CO2 leves?

I've checked online and everyone says to use a drop checker, but could be slow and unreliable. The other way was to check PH and KH then using a chart determine the current CO2 level. I've done this and my PH is around 7.4 and KH is around 4. Which according to the chart is low on CO2.

Question 2: Does that mean I have to increase CO2 input into the tank even more?

But if I increase the CO2 even more would it not harm the fish? My PH from the tap is at a super high 8.3 so having it at a 7.4 with the amount of CO2 I use now seems like a huge change already. Is it ok to increase CO2 levels even more, or em I doing something wrong, em I testing PH or KH wrong perhaps?

Question 3: Why don't my plants look lush and green?

The plants are growing fine, pretty fast actually.
But they don't look lush and green. I dose Easy Green All in One Fertilizer from Aquarium Co-Op once per week and API leaf zone once per week on a different day. Em I not dosing enough? soft watertag:fishtanktv.com,2017-02-09:6423219:Topic:9123202017-02-09T16:08:51.918ZCalvinhttp://fishtanktv.com/profile/CalvinLa

I've been out of the hobby for 10 to 15 years, i kept fresh and salt water fish for 30 years before that. i did try to get some plants growing in a 90 gallon fresh water tank with 4 T12s most just died but one did grow great, think it was water sprite.

I'm not much of a computer person but a friend showed me one of Dustin's you tube videos and i have been watching as many planted tank videos as i can for the last few weeks before setting up a tank.

So i was watching a Q&A Dustin had a week or so ago and one of the questions answer was the problem may be soft water. Where i live in Washington we have very soft water, I plan on a low tech low light 40b tank i bought a stingray light and will get some of Dustin's dirt capped with pool filter sand,

I was wondering if i will need to add minerals to the water i do want to keep some snails, shrimp and a few small tetra fish.

So im looking for something a little bigger grain size than sand, what brands do you bro-hams use?? I can't seem to decide; I have some black sand on hand but preferably don't want to use it; not that im worried about anaerobic pockets, ive hand sand in a hi-tech tank before with no problems, im just concerned about waste not making its way down to feed the dirt.. little help bromigos

Looking for some advice on what to do. Just noticed on of my rainbows is bent like an S and wiggling out abit, not that I blame it. He's in a 125 that's planted and dirted water quality is not an issue. Tanks been up 5 or so months and fully cycled before stocked. Did just get over an unfortunate ich out break. But every one looks good and acting fine except the bow and German ram that looks like he's a goner. Any advice? Read something that said it could be fish TB. Not sure where to go from…
