really its hard to say, you cant get a smaller cichlid and let it grow up with the oscar, unless it grows jsut as fast as he does! Trust me. I tried to keep a big oscar, and he bullied all of my slower growing cichlids. Keep fast pace growing giant fish. best option. you can always go for like redtail cats, or shovel nose cats too
Hi there, as am sure you’ve noticed, Oscars are a large fish and 3 in a tank like yours is going to be plenty! Any smaller fish will only become food for these fellas. The other fish suggested, although probably compatible, are also large fish and your tank will just be too small in the end. Make sure your filtration is up to the task as Oscars are messy. Stick to keeping just them and hardscape your aquarium for maximum visual appeal.
