So all didn't go as planned...far from it. The leaves of the plant wilted after a week and two of the plants died. I managed to salvage one and hacked all the leaves off the rhizome to restart the growth. I figure the wilting occurred because the plants I bought were kept submerged so the leaves couldn't adapt to the changes. Anyway, now the 'bald' rhizome is submerged in water so that the new leaves that grow from it will be able to survive emersed. The wilting might be due to the humidity…

Bought the anubias. Put them in containers with roots submerged in water with a tad of ferts. I am quite happy with this particular plant that I picked up as its ready to flower soon. I split the rhizome into three and tied them to two different blocks of wood and put the containers in a shaded area. They were grown submerged so I might experience some dead leaves but all should go well.
Lets see how this goes ;).
Here are some photos:…

Well I love rearing fish in aquariums but I also love growing plants. I don't mean just aquatic plants, I like growing terrestrial ones too. I have admittedly had more success with land plants because it is easier to control the conditions and change the conditions to suit optimum plant growth on land than in a relatively small 50 gallon aquarium.
Recently, I read that anubias grows much faster out of water with only its rhizome submerged than it does fully submerged. I would really…

Im starting this blog for my 180 gallon planted tank to not only have a record of the evolution of the tank but for others as well. When I was first starting my tank there was not really any information from people with bigger tanks, especially on this site so hopefully this will help some of you out and feel free to ask questions. I plan on updating with a picture once a month.
WEEK…

Okay guys so my tank has been cycling for about a week, with some neons and an African Brown Knife and I went to my local fish store and he told me adding some live plants would help the tank get balanced so now I've got a couple of little plants such as water wisteria (only as of now is it small), some java ferns, some Anubias and some rotala not all of it is small I guess but what I was curious about is how much light I should have the tank is 29 gallons 20" high? What I didn't consider…

Alright so I finally got a 180 gallon tank. It is 6x2x2. My question is what kind of lighting do you guys with bigger tanks (125-220ish) have for plants? Im trying to do this as cheep as I can. Im taking down a 75 and a 55 to make room for the 180, so I have 2, 48inch dual t5s that I can put on there but I doubt that will be enough? Im thinking about running 85watt cfls (about four of them) as well since Ive had good luck with them and with two 48 inch strips the…

No matter how many times I've seen it, the birth of fry never gets old.
No matter how many new blooms I see on my plants, it never gets old. Each new plant life, each new fry is met with the same joy as the last, the one before that and the one before that.
Beautiful bright scales, mating dances, even when they establish rank, I enjoy watching it.
I've seen my Bettas pass through Wisteria roots a thousand times, each time as beautiful as the first.
I search for the perfect…

OK. so I ordered an ADA 60p tank like 2 weeks ago, and It's coming this week. It's 17.5 gallons, 66 liters. I am super excited but right now, in my 5 gal tank, i have 12 neons, 1 betta, 1 ghost shrimp, 4 cory cats. In my new tank though I can have SOOO many more fish. So im not really intersted in anything too big. Betta size is the beggest ill go for.. I was thinking about these: baloon pristella, scarlet bandis, siamese algae eater, otocinclus, amano shrimp, sakura…

I'm moving March 1st and I need suggestions on how to move a host of fish. This is what has to be moved.

1 nine inch common pleco
60+ molly and guppy youth

I think of this move and I'm like, Oh dear how on earth am I going to move all these fish? I figure the frogs will be just fine and the bettas will manage in their…

Anyone know about how much a pair of breeding angelfish are worth?
Added by Nathan Bryant on January 9, 2013 at 1:45am — 1 Comment
Hey i just found out that i have a new batch of angelfish fry. I was wounding if anyone would like to buy them and have me ship them to you once they are big enough. For the last 3 batches i have only had one die which was in the last one. I have traded them all into my lfs but was wondering if any of you guys would like some. I am not in it for the money but would like to cover at least half of the shipping cost.

I'm aware that this is primarily a place for people who keep fish, however, I'd like to know if anyone can assist with my frog questions.
I've got a 55 gallon tank, tall with 3 Albinos and 3 molten African Clawed Frogs. These guys share a home with 2 goldfish that are about 4 inches each. Originally I just had 3 frogs but one didn't make it then some guy all but abandoned a baby here. Well, I replaced the one that died with 3 babies hoping at least one would survive. All…

This is a quick summary of an experiment I did in 2009. I find that most plants will survive in salt. You'll likely be surprised at how many common aquarium plants are, to some degree brackish. Most all do tolerate salts to some extent. All those that I listed can do well at the lower end of brackish range... near densities of 1.008-.010 The list below are the ones I have kept (and still keep) in such circumstances: (BW)
Anacharis, Anubias, Bacopa, Cabomba, Hornwort, Water Sprite,…

I'm in the need of a large piece of driftwood for my 75 gallon. Can anyone help me find a piece on the internet? I've been looking for days now, and there is no driftwood where I live.
