Hi, Fishtankkid. These fishes are in my 180Gl tank, that runs with a 5 foot sump. But i wish i had a 400Gl allready!lol

I'm new here too, but have been studying fish for quite some time and am a moderator on OscarFishLover.com for a long time.

180 gallon thats cool you must have some knowledge with oscars i know a little about oscars i really havent done alot of studying with this particular fish mainly because i dont have the space to hold this awesome fish. I might be moving to Montana in june and the new house will have a full basement and my mom said that i can get a 180 gallon tank and if i can get the money i will end up getting a fx5 filter which will be large enough for sure. I will check out OscarFishLover.com sometime, sounds cool.

If it were me i would keep south american cichlids because there are alot more species to choose from and tend to be a little bit less aggressive but they are still not a group of fish to keep in the community aquarium. Cichlids should be kept with semi aggressive to aggressive fish, african cichlids are a little more difficult because you have to choose a lake and stick with cichlids that are native to that lake, for example say you choose lake malawai you should stick with cichlids native to that lake because in africa the lakes have different water parmeters like ph. So i would recammend south american cichlids if it were me, but keep in mind that some species of cichlids get quite large but your 65 gallon should be good for most cichlids. I have a 55 gallon community tank. You should do some reserch on the particular species you are interested in, in your cichlid tank you should include alot of rocks and hiding spots and cichlids are rock dwellers mostly african cichlids are though but still include hiding spots in with the south american cichlids to though because they are territoryal and need there own territores hope i can help let me now if you need any more help.

The sticking to one lake or ome theme in a tank has kept me from starting a cichlid only tank.

I got my amazon tank, but have my Gar in there, and some people wouldt say that that's just not done. But i look at if the fish get along, i put them together.

And strangely enough a Northern American fish can get along very well will middle/south american cichlids, in this case Oscars. But with other cichlids you can't just combine anything you like...
