Finally, my pond does not suck anymore.
My problem was filtration. Using some pvc pipe and elbow, I got the pump intake to draw water from the middle of the water column. When the pump intake was on the floor of the pond, it would constantly clog within a day or two. With the reduction of flow, i had all sorts of issues. Now the pump has not needed attention in over a month! NOICE!
