10 Gallon Dirted Tank Mission

Hey, new here and new to planted tanks. I have a empty 10 gallon tank i would like to put dirt in and see how plants will do. I have a 55 gallon tank now with gravel and the plants are doing ok. I just want to see great plant growth. I've been thinking on how im going to dirt my tank and im thinking just go and get some dirt from outside and save the money. Idk if this is a bad idea or not. If this doesn't work im thinking about doing Dustins recipe as ive seen in his videos.

Any response would be great.

the question is dirt from outside can contain many amount of stuff which you know nothing of and including insects.

And the dirt im using is miles from civilization and i can rinse the dirt until i get it clean and bug free.

Maybe ill just skip the dirt from outside and just go out and buy miracle grow organic choice.

I used half organic half plain old dirt. The local dirt in my area contains clay and my 10 gal experiment tank is booming with new growth! I have swords (amazon and red) with wisteria and it's been 2 weeks since I started it. Hope this helps!

I wouldn't use the dirt from outside. A small bag of organic choice you should be able to find it at walmart for less then $8 and you will only use about half for a ten gal, so its not all the expensive to get. You will probably end up spending more in a cap then the dirt depending on what you use or already have.
