I have a 100G tank that I am trying to plan out for when I move in March and I am thinking...........Discus. I have some really cool looking pieces of drift wood and plan on heavily planting the tank like all of my others. I have read quite a few discussions and articles on discus and though they seem like a lot of work I still think 5-6 of them would look awesome in my tank. Just looking for any info on care, tank mates, etc and any of your experiences with these fish.

Thanks and Happy Holidays.

Lol. Gotta love technology. That pretty much hits most of the points that I was questioning. I was considering using Fluorite black sand as my substrate as I did read that discus like sand over gravel. Should I stick to larger leaf plants like swords or will they not disturb most plants? I have seen videos of people housing Rams or Apistos with discus, which IMO, even though peaceful, they still seem to have random bursts of energy so I would assume they would not be advisable tank mates.

Thanks for the answers GSP!

That is awesome news! I just filled a 20G I had using Fluorite black, not sand, and it was extremely dusty, but Clarity cleared it right up after the second dose of it. In your opinion will the plants have enough nutrients with the sand and daily dosing or should I consider plants root tabs as well?
