So, is there really any difference between these two sizes? They both hold 24w HO bulbs and put out the same amount of light. If i hang the light about 5-6" above my 29 gallon tank, there wouldn't be any difference right? No dead spots created or anything. If there is, please tell me. If not, its a lot cheaper and it puts out the same amount of light.

very big difference!

a 29g needs a 24" fixture. 30 will be pushing it and the fixture will go over the rim

30 would be pushing but shouldn't go over the rim. 29 gal are 30" wide already. The real problem is if the 30" has adjustable legs to allow the mounting to be at 30" otherwise if ur fixture is already 30" and each leg hangs a inch past the fixture but there is no adjustment to bring them any closer (only further apart) then ad far as legs go there is no way to mount it.
Im not gonna put it on top of the tank, its going to be hanging from conduit and galvanized wire. For easier maintenance, I was just wondering if I did, it wouldn't make any difference between 30" and 24" right? So it isnt really a matter of it fitting on the tank, just putting out the same amount of light and not having any dead spots.
