activated carbon ?

i want to achieve a balanced planted tank and keep things as natural as possible. buying co2 and ferts and adding them daily is not what i have in mind. My question is do other people with this goal use activated carbon in their filters. thanks fish tank people.

By adding these supplements you are creating a natural environment. Do research, get a dr. Smith and foster co2 kit, run 1-2 bubbles per sec, make sure you don't use co2 when lights are off! It's easy... Initially expensive, but last for months before you have to refill.
But do research, get comparable lights and you will have to dose about once a week and a 20ish percent water change once a wk.

Good luck. Oh, I would recommend using carbon in ur filter if you have a large fish load vs plant esstablishment.

what about "liquid CO2", and with a dirt, florite, eco complete substrate i was hoping that ferts would not be needed. Plants seem to be doing pretty good, most have doubled in size since planting a month ago. i haven't been using the activated carbon in my little hob and the tank still smells good. the next problem i am looking to solve is keeping the slime off the surface and getting more of the suspended particulate out of the water column. i think i might want to run an overflow with a small sump and a canister. both diy, which is great fun. testing prototypes now.
