i recently had an african dwarf frog escape my tank (20 gal.) I had a lid so it must have escaped through the filter hole...

i had a bucket beside the tank and it happened to land inside the bucket. there was a small amount of water (not enough to cover him but enough to keep his skin moist) there so he was ok...despide being missing for a day or so before i found him!

2 questions. now that he's back in my tank and seems to be ok. is there anything i need to do to make sure he's ok? (he is eating and acting normal but he was out of the tank for at least 24 hours before i found him)

the second question, how can i prevent him from jumping out the filter hole another time?

You probably won't be able to keep them in and I wouldn't worry about a one time exscape. They don't really actively look for a way out. Although ur lucky u found it. I had a female exscape from my tank and my gf found it dried up in our bathroom days later.

ADF can actually survive out of water for quite a while before they die. when you think its dead..put it back in the water and whooola! back from the dead!

Sometime when they go up for oxygen, they have a frenzy reaction and swim up really fast and thats how most jump out.

What you can do is keep your water level low...alot of people fill their tank all the way up. I always keep my water level below 3" from the top rim.

it will be fine when I first got my african clawed frogs 1 escaped at night around 10:00pm I heard the splash but didn't think anything of it got out my bed at 11:00am (it was a lazy sunday morning) it was laying on the floor covered in dust were he had slid along the floor he was dried out quite a bit and not moving lifeless I lifted him put him in the tank and held him in the flow of the filter and he slowly came back to life and sat in my hand for about half an hour then swam away , he also shed his skin the next day lol
