Amazon Sword replacing Leaves... Kinda okay, but still not sure....

Okay, so this is my first post. Yea! or boo....

First and foremost are the specs.

I have a 75 gal glass standard, 4ft tank.

Filter:       Ehiem bio filter going through about 80 gal/hr.

Lighting:  Odyssea 48" T5 3Lamps Deluxe 162W (3x 54W)
 2x 10000K and 1x Actinic Blue lamps

Substrate:      Florite brown stuff for planted tanks. (Had i known about Dustins Dirt, probably would be that.)

I have a Plecostomus and Cichlids, but they have NEVER NEVER EVER been a problem with my plants.

Anywho, I have bought a large Amazon sword from Dustin a few months back. But I'm kinda in the dark as to how it's going. It hasn't died ...... yet.

On the contrary, It has grown more leaves. But they are alot shorter than the Ones it came with. This is what is confusing. It lost it's 10 or 12, long, 15 inch leaves and replaced them with 30 or 40 smaller 8-10 inch leaves that are also alot thinner.

This fuzzy coral lookin thing is a towel.

I don't mind the look of the shorter leaves, just curious. Also, I have another sword from Petsmart that did the EXACT SAME THING. Just wondering if they are adapting to low nutrients or High nutrients?

Thanks

PS Look for more pictures of the tank soon!

They're definitely reacting to something. Plants adapt to their surroundings to ensure their survival. But I wouldn't feel comfortable if my Amazon had short/small leaves. They should be large.

Amazons love light, a rich substrate, and plenty of it. I keep mine in a large clay flowerpot and the roots still don't have enough room. Try different ferts if they don't pick up - especially a fert that contains iron.

Your light sounds fine, but try swapping in one 6500K bulb if nothing else works. If you can get them some sunlight, they'll love you.

Yeah you defenitly don't need the actinic bulb for a freshwater tank, I'd replace that one with a lower spectrum bulb.

Thanks you two! Appreciate the feed back. Hopefully I will have more pictures of the whole thing up soon.
