Just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on the best lighting for your tank. Best for the money or best for cichlids or even of corse plants. Also mention what you might have upgraded from and why. I like to hear the stories from different people on here. It reminds me of when I first started

In my opinion, there are different lighting options for everything. For planted tanks, high tech tanks with co2 and ferts is T5HO or T5NO. If the tank is really large then maybe consider metal halides for high tech tanks and I love the shimmer effect. For low light, I would consider T8 fixtures or those cheap spiral cfls from Lowes of Home Depot. I love that shimmer effect and LED fixtures can do that too, but aren't very good for plants and probably best for show tanks for cichlids. My 29 gallon has the 2x24w T5HO Nova Extreme. I run a co2 tank and dose ferts everyday. My plants are growing like crazy, but that might be because the tank still doesnt have any fish in it and i turned the co2 up all the way to 5-6bps.
