there's a diy moving bed filter made from k1 caldness an airstone and a pump with airline. It's great for smaller tanks and it's really cheap (k1 is like 3 bucks a litre) you just need a juice container (They're the only ones with the right shape needed, drill a hole through the cap and squeeze the airline tubing through, seal the hole with sealant on both sides and poke holes in the bottom and top of the bottle. Next, after the sealant sets, you're going to attach suction cups to the back of the bottle and fill it with the k1 media. When it's full and the cap is back on securely you flip it upside down and stick it to the inside of the aquarium. Attach the other end of the airline tubing to an air pump and let it run.
