Cherry shrimp?

Hey i am new to planted tanks and just wondering if there is a reason why so many people on this site have cherry shrimp in their tanks, do they do something for the plants? Or is it just you all like how the look and act?

they use it for algae removal and some people just like to breed or keep them

I have them in my small sand tank and I really like them, I'm tempted to get some for my dirted tank, they do a great job of keeping the tank clean and they add colour to the tank
