I have a 30 gallon cube tank set up with 2 medium to small sized pieces of Malaysian driftwood in it along with several plants. crypts, rotala, dwarf sag. i don't mind the tannin's staining the water but there seems to be dirt collecting on top of my gravel and on the leaves of the plants. the tanks been running for about 2 months and i keep up on water changes but it keeps accumulating. i have a HOB penguin filter but it cant keep up. the tank has 1-1.5 inches of dirt and the same amount of regular aquarium gravel on top of it. Im getting frustrated, whats causing the dirt build up (at least i think its dirt) ?

The fish in the tank are 6 red eye tetras, and an apistogramma cacatuoides. i don't take plants out of that tank but when i do water changes i have disturbed the gravel because i was cleaning up the piles of dirt but i don't like dig down to far at all. I can post a pic tomorrow.
