Hey every one I wondering Is that eny body have discus fish in planted tank but hard water do they still happy and healthy I'm thinking of doing a dirt tank with hard water cos it good for the plant but I don't know about the discus fish thank for reading this guy.

Plants will do well in soft water as long as you dose ferts. Or you could choose plants that are only from South America which will be fine with the water parameters that discus prefer.

Yeah, they'll be fine but they probably won't breed and if they do the eggs won't hatch. Also I noticed that Discus colors are better in soft water. I just bought 6 blues and am keeping them in rainwater (very soft). The hornwart and water cabbage are doing fine in the soft water. And like Mr Puffer says you can grow rooted plants in softwater IF they're in a fertile substrate with high cec. (cation exchange capacity) This is a type of substrate that sucks up minerals and holds them for the plants roots. Examples of high cec substrates are eco-complete, flourite, clay, and garden soil. Examples of low or 0 cec substrates are aquarium gravel and sand.

Stay with the dirt and go with softwater. Rainwater would be a great option if you can collect it.
