So whats the best method when dirting, leaving the dirt dry then capping it, or adding a bit of water to the dirt then capping? Right now im doing a little experiment with some glass jars. one i left the dirt dry then added some gravel, and the other i made the dirt wet and then added gravel. As of right now interestingly enough, the dry dirt has clear water and no floating particles where as the wet dirt jar is pretty messy. any feed back is appreciated!

Dustin and many other fishtanktv people have said that your supposed to mix the dirt with water until its a muddy consistency but not overly wet before you cap it. This is supposed to release air bubbles. Also if you dirt a tank u have to do quite a few water changes, two 100% changes the first day, 25% change the next day, then in like 3 days do another 25% change and then you can go back to your regular water change schedule. Also check out this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxYnzU0nXrE&feature=player_embedded it'll show you everything u need to know about dirting a tank and so will his other vids.

mix in water with the dirt first

I made a video on how I did my dirt tank, it might help you.
