There are plants that dont need soil/substraight. Research java fern, hornwort, java moss, anubia.

yea but because you dont have dirt (which isnt a big deal) you are gona want to get some kind of liquid fertilizer so you plants will actually grow with out the dirt in them. i recommend something like flourish or aqueon plant additives

start off small. once you  get some plants you will get into lighting (which you have already) co2 injection and nutrients. the only thing you really need is some iron additive. Im no expert but that is what i have been told. depending on the plant it should get most nutrients from the fish waste and what not, and the only thing the plants will lack is iron. but who wants the bare minimum? lol. I used just gravel and flourish iron suppliment with very underpowered basic lighting and i still have a few plants that have survived for about 3 years, but they never grew much and a lot died off. that is why once i get my 50 gallon acrylic built i am going to add dirt substrate, get good lighting and add iron rich clay to the soil. later when i get more money and run out of stuff to do i want to get a pressurized co2 system also.

I guess I am just saying to go get a few cheap plants and see how it goes. it is a lot of trial and error. the fun is in the learning
