Hi Fish Tank Tv,

Finally got a fluval edge 2, I have wanted one of these since i saw it a year ago. I am undecided to what to do with it, no real plan but loads of ideas.

Watch this space!!!

I have been looking at this tank for a couple weeks now, Just a few thoughts so far -

I am still unsure on what style of aquarium or fish i want. I have looked at a lot of marine tanks but my last idea has been to create a native Irish Tank with fresh water fish, But I'm up in the air at the moment.

The tank is still cycling, The very first time i added water, I added 3 gallons of water from another aquarium and then topped of the tank with conditioned tap water. And added Nutrafin Cycle which was supplied in the box. Continued to add the Nutrafin Cycle for two weeks and then did a large 50% water change. I now use a product called Prime as a tap water conditioner.

I have made miner modifications to the filter, but I'll get to that later.  Visually the tank looks great, the clean lines of the fluval edge make for a striking look. Even with a bare tank like mine,  ive got nothing but complements when friends have seen it.

Minor Filter Upgrades

Firstly I am using the standard filter supplied with the tank. I was expecting a near silent noise emitting from the filter, but it is louder, than I wanted. The motor in the pump was making a humming noise, and the filter lid rattled making another noise.

The "lid" was fixed, by making a rubber gasket, to seal it to the filter. This has stopped the rattling.

As for the humming noise coming from the pump motor, I took the pump off the filter, and greased the steel pin that spins the blades of the pump with vaseline. So far it has reduced the noise too near silent. I am going to work this in to my regular maintenance routine.

For the first two weeks the filter was run on full power, this created large oxygen bubbles to form on the glass at top of the tank which had to removed by hand. I cut a piece of filter floss and added it to the filter basket, putting it above the carbon filter and below the bio balls. Also I added a fluval edge algae clear sachet to the top of the filter. And now run the filter at 65% power, the result is no accumulation of oxygen bubbles at the glass on the top of the tank.
