Wife asked me what i wanted santa to bring me. I told her a canister filter! she said " a what"??.

I have a 140 gallon planted tank. I see a lot of guys and gals....using the FX 5. for the money...is that the best option out there? Also is there a website you guys recommend buying stuff like that from?

Thanks a bunch

Well when I was looking for a canister I did all the searches for "what is the best canister?" and what not.  What I found is that like most things there are fans and dissenters of every brand out there.  Eheim people will scoff at the FX5 and Fluval people will laugh at the Pro3 XL.  Find out what you want the most out of the filter.  Quietness over power, bio vs. mechanical filtration and go with the filter that meets those needs.  Ex. For the longest time Eheim has been touted as the quietest of the canisters.

After all the looking around I decided my HOB was good enough for my tank and I put the money into other things.
