So I was a long time aquarium enthusiast, and got out of the game a couple years ago. I have a 55 gallon setup and ready to rock, but before I threw anything in it, I got to researching planted tanks, and came across Dustins Fishtanks. Anyways, here I am, with questions about the basics.... dirt.
I've watched a lot of videos from the start, and I cant really find any information about the dirt? From my understanding it's the organic potting soil mixed with red clay? How do I get that ready for the aquarium? Any help or links would be great!
I'm completly open about what to keep in the tank, and the only thing I'll probably need to change is my lighting.
I currently have the tank filled with just water, all my levels are correct, a water heater set at 74F, and 5 goldfish just to start cycling the tank. I presume that none of this will mater, because in order to put the substrate in, I'll want an empty tank?
I don't know what kind of fish I want to keep, and I don't know what kind of plants I want to keep, all I know is that I've seen some sweet planted tanks, and I want some help making one as well!
