Help me my first dirt tank failure

So i got the organic miracle gro potting mix and when i opened it t had woodchips.
So i put it in my tank then capped it with my gravel which was like a gravel and sand texture.
So i put water in it slowly and the dirt began to go up the top.
So i dont know what i did wrong? Please help

Ok we're gonna need a bit more info to help ya out. How much gravel/sand did you use to cap the dirt? And how long have you had it running?

Well my measurements were off so one side has more dirt and less gravel and the other side is the other way aroumd. And its only been running for 6 hours

Well the problem is the cap should be 1" to 1 1/2 ". Cus you have it uneven you should expect some seepage after day 2 or 3 it should all settle an you will notice a big difference also scoope Out the floating debris the stuff all the way up top everything else is gonna settle

I tried one type of organic miracle grow potting mix and the stuff had too much wood in it. It just floated and made a huge mess. I tried another miracle grow organic mix and it worked very well. I will look and see what it is called and let you know. Another tip rinse it several times prior to putting it in your tank. You can get the floating debris out of it that way. I rinsed mine about 3 or 4 times and then let it soak over night prior to putting it in my tank
