So i bought 5 neon tetras about 2 weeks ago and put them in a new dirted tank. Now they're getting white spots all over them. What's causing this? The water? I do 2-3 50% water changed a week because of the dirt.

Your tetras are getting Ich or Ichthyophthirius multifilis...These are small grain of white spot that a slowly grows and stresses out your fish until they are no more. But there are common ways to treat this you can do the following treatment:

Treatment:

  • Raise water temperature  (82 degrees)
  • Medicate for 10-14 days (Ich Cue for local pet store)
  • Use aquarium salt as following in direct on the box
  • Remove carbon filtration during treatment
  • Perform water changes between treatment

    Hope this help you bit

ick .due to stress and new tank syndrome.

result in death is highly.

ok thanx guys, i'll be sure to treat them.

Neon tetras will die if you look at them wrong.  The ones that make it will last a long time.  Like the others have said, they have ich.  Treat the tank as directed, then wait 7-10 days and treat again.  The parasite can only be killed during it's free swimming stage. Neon's are not a fish for a new tank.  Add them after it is well established.

well talk!

they need mature tank and not newly setup.

Hope everything works out.

Thank you for all the info.
So,if i don't do anything will the ich kill them?

That ich..go get a treatment from ur lfs and that should clear it up...

first time i got neon's they had ich as well, bring the temp to above 80 and treat with anti ich medication available at your lfs

Ich..Good luck man you've been given great advice in this thread!
