I set up a 5 gallon (i think..) tank with dirt as the substrate.

I added a top layer of ADA aquasoil amazonia. But I'm not sure how it's going to end up.

I have a coralife lighting, 10,000K bulb and an actinic bulb. Do you think those lights will work?

So far, my tank is not clearing up. It's still cloudy.

I've added dwarf hair grass and marsilea minuta (emersed form).

Here's a picture.

Hopefully I can show more updates in the future and hopefully my plants will flourish :)

Wish me luck!!

Here's my other non-dirt planted tank just so I could compare the two in the future.

I also added too much dirt. *shrug*

I believe it said 18W. but I'm not entirely sure.

I want to change my actinic bulb to something else, but do you think running two 10,000K bulbs will be too much for my tank?

About ADA aquasoil leaching ammonia into the water column, hmm.

I haven't heard about that before lol! I heard so many great stories about aquasoil, so I didn't hesitate on buying this substrate LOL. It's supposedly really good for plants, but who knows :)

Thanks for the nice comment and good advice! :)

It is the dirt that leaches ammoniainto the water.  Water changes every couple of days for thefirst couple of weeks.  I just recently set up my first dirt tank.  It cycled in a couple of weeks.  I did refill it with water from an established tank, that may have helped things along.
