the water in my pond is turning brown, and the water level is dropping even though its raining. is the brown water from leaves or is tannin leaching in from a hole in my pond? is the dropping water level because its wicking out through the liner? or is there a hole in my pond?

I loose about an inch of water a day in my pond.  Most of this is due to the waterfall splash, the rest from evaporation.  Tannins will only be in the pond if you have leaves, plants, etc in the pond.

Check around the edge of the pond to see if the soil is wet.  Capillary action can remove an amazing amount of water from a pond.  You may have to adjust the folds in your liner.

If you have a hole in your pond you will lose a lot of water really fast.  Check around the perimeter of your pond - the liner might have sagged and is letting water out and dirt get in.  Also check your biofalls - my leak this year was where the water entered the liner from the falls.  The liner had folded itself back away from where it should have been.  You can put rinsed charcoal in a pantyhose sock at the top of your biofalls and it will clear up your water - I've also used nu-foam as an additional filter in my skimmer box, it will catch the finer bits.
