I want to here some people's experiences with hornwort! For example how fast does it grow, good experiences, bad ones! What are they good for and what are they bad for, also are they good for beginners and how much lighting! So, practically how do you care for them! And, lastly, does anyone have free or VERY low cost hornwort, I'll pay for shipping!!

Thanks,

Hunter D.

Hornwort, lol where to start. I've been growing this plant on and off. It's sensitive to copper and high temp, ive learned that the hard way lol. If under mid-high light it will take over your tank but under low light it is easier to manage. If grown in mid-high light the needles will go thick and lots of "branches" will sproutout. If grown in low light it will grow lengthy and break easily when messed with. Also from time to time it just "dies", all it's needles will fall and clog your fliter lol. What I do is pick out the nices looking pieces and throw the rest away. The fragments that you leave behind will stay dormant for a while then explode with life again. This plant, from what I've read, is a like a sponge it will absorb any/all available nutrients in the water almost to where it will starve itself and other plants. Hornwort needs to be prune offen as the older part of the plant will start to grow algae. The algae will block the light to the plant and intern it will start to loose it's needles. It can grow in both heated and cold water tanks. I have it currently in my 55 gallon and in the pond. The average temp in my 55gallon is 76* and in my pond it's about 55*-65*. My 55 gallon is high light, EI fert dosing, currently DIY co2 (going pressured a soon as my parts get here) and dirted. I have to prune it weekly and haven't bought any for almost 3 years, just been propagating it. In my pond I just nature take its path beside weekly water changes. This is my experience with it and I too would like to hear other people's experiences with it.

P.s. i have read in many online markets that it can be used as a background plant I've never had any success with it as the bottom likes to melt and just floats the top. And in the wild it just floats on lakes, when fish in Lake Victoria in Texas it claimed many of my hooks. Lol
Thanks for the reply, you. Had a lot of good information that I couldn't find from up other sites! And I was thinking about putting it in my pond too! I'm hoping I can grow it kind of slow due to the fact it does take over the tank! I actually want it to take over the tank for fry! LOL! And once again thanks, for the information, it's much appreciated!!

Thanks,

Hunter D.
