Hello everyone, I'm really wanting to start a dirt tank and after watching Dustin's videos for several months I've decided to sell my mbuna and convert the tank into a dirt tank. I was hoping to get some miracle-gro organic choice potting mix but its not available to me in the UK :(. I've been looking for other soils people have used but all I can find is people using miracle-gro organic choice potting mix or expensive aquarium soil substrates. I'm wondering if anyone knows of other soil mixes that are cheap and available in the UK. Or if anyone in the UK can shed a light on what they use.

U can use dirt from ur backyard so long u haven't put chemical fertilizers in it . All u do is get the dirt sift it to get small pebbles and insects out. Then u bake it for like 10-15 min at like 400f so u kill most micro hitch hikers in the dirt let it cool and u have free dirt for ur planted tank.

Thanks, but I don't have a garden/yard I live in a city so I don't think I can go digging up the park ha

Can someone please take a look at this and tell me what they think for using this as a soil substrate http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/200247

I think that 1 is fine. 1 of the reviews states it doesn't have added fertilizers so that's a good thing

That's what I thought I'll head over to the store tomorrow and buy some
