I have the Fluval Ebi - 7.5 gal nano tank. lots of live plants and RCS. I want to upgrade to a canister filter. I've had the Eheim 2222 in the past(sold it) and loved it!
But now w/ a nano tank and so many choices. Eheim 2211 are impossible to find @ LFS, (at least in western MA. they are). I did find a Classi 2215, Ecco pro 2231 and Ecco pro 2234. As well as the Fluval 205 (from what I read this isn't even an option due to inferior quality parts) and the new Fluval 206 (what the 205 SHOULD have been the first time around)
I know the Classic is the end all be all of filters. I can always turn down the water flow to get slower circulation/turnover. But the Classic is harder to prime, not as easy to clean, and the most reliable (from what I read).

Eheim Ecco (pro vs. comfort) series. These have baskets, 1 w/ prefilter, and from what I read flimsy handles/primer that break often! (not quite up to Eheim standards?)

Okay then you've got the Fluval 206. (Fluval has the reputation of flimsy parts).

WHAT DO I CHOOSE????

with that small of a tank i wouldn't even go with a canister. Flow rate would just be outrageous high.

I would like to get a internal spray bar filter. ...one like the fluval.

I agree the fli for a small tank would be to high. Any small internal wood do a tank that size

canister would be a huge filter for a small tank, i would go internal, fluval nano aquarium filter is made specially for small tanks like yours, another option would be elite mini aquarium filter

if you use a canister your tank will be like a washing machine lol , defo an internal filter or a hang on back filter

Thx for the feedbk.  I'm currently using the fluval internal mini filter that came w/ the tank.  I modified the media but am still receiving minimumly favorable results.  I'm aware that the Aquarium Museum in Japan uses the Eheim 2211 on their nano tanks.   Does any one have any feed back on this model?

You would need to plumb it for a canister.  My bet is they have on large canister taking care of ALL of the nano tanks.

So for example my Fluval FX 5 is rated for 400 gallons and will move about 960 gallons per hour.

Good luck on your quest for a better filter!

You can't get a canister that small.  Fluval has some really nice little filters that have a spray bar option.  Good youtube reviews on them.

Here is one worth watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZbA6h1cCSI

55 liters is 14.5 gallons.  It wil more than handle your 7.5 gallon nano.

Zoomed 501 seem to be pretty good for nano tanks.

I stand corrected!  Looks like someone is even using a 206 on a Fluval Edge.  They make a 106 as well.  I'm very happy with my 206 on my 33 gallon so far.  I had an issue with the new unit and had to get it swapped out.

i Bought a tom rapids mini canister filter it works great so far i have had it for about 3 months now no problems at all .

Pros: easy to set up great flow on a 10g would work for a 30g.

cons: bad hose you can get different hose.

other then that it works great comes with a hanger so you can hang it on the back on the tank i do not buy the filter media i buy carbon and get a bag for it.
