I'm planning an extremely low tech tank and need some experienced val keepers to help me out.

Here is what I would like to do:

90 gallon

Sand substrate (no dirt)

96 watts of light

no CO2, no fertilizers

So I basically have 4 questions:

1)  I have done tons of research trying to really figure out the differences between all the types of val and get so much mixed information.  All I want is the straight leaf val that isn't the super wide and tall type of val.  I'm guessing most people refer to this simply as "jungle val" but I see so many types of mislabeled val on youtube and in stores.

It is my understanding that jungle val has straight leaves, is about 1/4" to 1/2" wide, and doesn't grow to be EXTREMELY tall (over 6 feet).  Is this the correct description of jungle val?

2)  How well will jungle val grow in inert sand with no fertilizers?  I know val has a reputation for being extremely easy to grow, but could I realistically expect it to grow to at least the height of the 90 gallon tank (24") in just sand?  I would prefer an answer from someone who has actually done this or has a picture or youtube clip of val under these conditions.

3)  I will be using coralife's 48" T5HO fixture on this tank.  Is it better to go with 1 6700k bulb and 1 "colormax" bulb, or should I just get 2 6700ks?

4)  not about val, but are there any foreground plants that would grow in this same environment?  I read that micro swords might do ok.  Any other suggestions?
