Setting up my 10 gallon this weekend. Its my first dirt tank so im hoping everything goes well. I'm just not too sure on what I should I get for plants. I'm planning on putting in either ghost or cherry shrimp along with some kind of other fish. after the tanks been running for a week or 2. Currently I have 1 Aqueon Floramax T8 Fluorescent Lamp for the tank. Hopefully thats enough if not I'll upgrade sometime soon.

What kind of plants should I be looking for when I go to the LFS?

that is a good question. but you left some key items, like whats the wattage, and are you palning to do co2 injection system.

i can can tell you what i have in my planted 10 gallon. i have wisteria, ludwigia, ruby amazon sword, amazon sword, anubius, java fern, and some ,micro sword. and i running 2 watts per gallon and diy co2 system. when i do weekly water changes i have to term back the wisteria and ludwigia, other wise it would take over the tank. as for fish i just have guppies and an otto.

Its only 15 watts so I'm guessing I'll need low light plants? As for co2 I was going to see how they did without it and then add a diy system if needed.
If you're doing the low tech thing, do anubias for sure! Just get a bunch of different sorts and go from there. I think driftwood and anubias only tanks look wicked!
I forgot to mention I have a fair size piece of driftwood thats going to be in the center of the tank
are you gonna dirt this?
