It won't hurt the plants but it won't help keep any CO2 in the water. If you don't plan on adding CO2 (I don't use any either) you want all the naturally occurring CO2 you can get!

shouldn't really need an air stone unless u have deplete oxygen in the water..your filter should do all the work for you

I always have circulated air in my tanks and it just doesn't feel right to turn the air off I guess it's going to take a leap of faith on my part I'll give it a try

Instead of using an air stone to circulated the tank. you can always use a powe rhead

aiming up towards the surface a little.
