So I just got a picotope 3 gallon and was planning on doing a planted tank. Is it necessary to have a power head?

Probably the filter that came with it would be fine, if it is one of those all in one nano set ups.  I cant see there being room for a powerhead in a 3 gallon tank.  Just the flow from the back filter shud be fine.

cool thanks man

That seems like over kill to me.  I see them on Salt Water nano cubes but it's usually because of filter feeders.  I can't see a reason for it.

I would go without it and if you want to add it later do it then.  They make units that can mount on the inside tank wall and simulate waves as well as pulse different flow rates.  More of a salt water item in my book.

There are fish that will like it.  My rasboras love it for example.  There are others that wouldn't like it.

Regardless, you can have a perfectly happy, well growing planted tank without it.

you could..but you have to get yours hands on a nano powerhead if you can find one
