Java Fern

Will Java Fern not do well if planted in the substrate? Does it have to be out of the substrate? Bought a great looking specimen that has been planted in the substrate and the leaves have almost all turned dark(melted)

Dirted 75 gallon capped with fine gravel

No CO2, only dose liquid ferts with every other water change which is 50% twice a week

2.56 watts per gallon

Any input would be greatly appreciated, first time keeping java fern

they can be bury in the gravel (no sand) and still grow just fine.. Make sure the rihozome and roots are expose ontop.

Attaching them to rock/structure/driftwood will works out fine.

I need to get a pic of it and post on here for you guys to see. I think the plant is dead my self. It's almost like it had some sort of fungus or something. I guess their leaves melt like crypts?

Here's a pic. I took a closer look and I believe what I have is a bunch of leaves. There is no rihozome and it looks like all leaves stems tied together to resemble a complete plant. Guess I got jipped on this one. Oh well that's what happens on eBay sometimes. My water in this pic is tinged, it is time for water change number two this week

omg... that is bad.

it seem like you are right that they are a bunch of leaves. But they have no rhizome or roots so planting them is useless by now as they are already to the point of no return.

alot of people will sell it like that...call "clipping or leaves". and you have to attach it to regrow roots. But it is too late.
