Well I added a Marineland singlebright LED fixture to my tank a couple weeks ago, I didnt get the 24" i should have for my 30 gallon but honestly i like it.  Cant say wether my plants are doing any better or not but I have it running with my T8 20w bulb and it makes for some pretty nice color.  Also the fixture I bought has moon lights which are really nice to put on at night if you have white or ligh colored fish

I'm running LED lights on all my tanks. My main tank which is a 55 gallon has the 48-60" marineland reef ready lights on it. I've only had the tank setup for a couple weeks now but they seem to be doing good. I can't really give you a comparison because they are the only lights I've had on the tank. The guy at the fish store that I bought it from said thats what him and at least one other guy that works there are running on their planted tanks.

I guess light is light as long as you have it in the optimum spectrum for the plants.

I was running the marineland double brights (36") on my 75g and it wasnt enough to keep some of my stem plants alive but did ok with jungle val and some anubias.

I also have the 18" DB model on my 10g shrimp tank and it seems to be the right amount of light for it since it is a low tech tank.

Overall Id say they would be ok for low tech shallower setups but once you get about 15" deep or so Id say you would need more light for most plants. I do love their look though......
