I've got an old aquarium originally set up for salt water, that I wanted to give my son. He wants to set it up for freshwater plants and fish, perhaps discus or angels.
The lighting system consists of:
4 - CFL 9 watt 5000 k lamps
4 - CFL 9 watt Blue lamps
2 - CFL 39 watt 4100 k lamps
We've got a lot of work to do, but is this spectrum good for this new tank or should we be looking for different bulbs. Not really interested in going with T5 or T12, LED etc. as we're trying to keep our costs down and we'd like to use the equipment we have for now if possible. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

the bulbs are fine but the 4100K bulbs are not necessary. since you have blue and 5000K bulbs i suggest you get some 6500K bulbs. you can get them from walmart or online in a bulk buy. my 26 watt bulb from walmart puts out 1650 Lumens. good spectrum also.
as for your blue lamps what kind of blue. there are many types of blue but if you can give a brand or name of the light bulb. maybe even dominant wavelength of the blue light.
