I'm new to dirted tanks and am about to dirt a 300 litre one... (base 100cm x 55cm).
Am planning to use 2 x 8 litre bags of miracle-gro organic potting mix and 2 x 7 kg bags of fluorite - approx 50:50 dirt to flourite, is this about right or is this too much flourite?
Also if the ratios is ok... is the quantity? I've just read the dirt shouldn't be too thick, due to an excess of anaerobic activity and a build up of toxins? I reckon the above mix will give me 2 inches which I'll cap with 2 inches of gravel (JBL Sansibar Black Gravel which is quite fine grains) - total 4 inches. Is this too thick/deep?
Any advice is welcome. Thanks
