Hey everyone,

I am a beginner with a 55 gallon tank that I inherited, so far (before I started watching Dustin's videos), I replaced the gravel substrate in the tank with a 50/50 mix of red flint and sand (sadly no dirt).  I acquired the Current-USA Satellite Freshwater LED+ light (http://www.current-usa.com/aquarium-led-lights/satellite-freshwater...).  My plants seem to be doing well, but I was curious what the communities thoughts were on this particular light, and an LED light in general for a planted tank.

The attached picture is right before the Java Ferns were introduced.

From what I have read on other fourms that the Current Sat Freshwater LED+ is great for low profile or short tanks. It will give you great par readings around 12in from the light to the substrate... More than that will do great with low light plants. Others swear by the Finnux Ray 2 setup.  Personally I have done a Makers 6" LED kit and bulit my own. The down side: Its rather pricey, takes some technical know how to build, and the heat sink is massive.  The plus side of it is that you can build one to out perform a t5HO or metal halide with little to no maintenance afterwards.  The combinations you can make with these kits are endless. If you dont want to go that route you can look into this company: Build My LED.com What they offer is a little more than the Current USA strip you bought, but not as much as the makers kit. They have a lot of options for the freshwater planted tanks or you can have them build you a custom one.

Thank you Shawn,  I like the sat LED+  so far.  My plants seem to be growing pretty well with it.  We will see how it goess!

Im not familiar with this light but as far as leds go, I love my finnex ray 2 and wouldnt trade if for anything. Best growth ive ever had and it gives off the perfect color light.
