Rain water is the best. If you live in a house put a rain barrel underneath a roof gutter to collect it. The other methods are too much trouble in my opinion.  An RO unit is expensive and unless you wanna keep a separate tank/bucket filled with distilled water and filtered with peat nothing else will be reliable and pose a danger to your fish. High and low ph's don't kill fish; sudden changes in ph do. Its called ph burn. Unless you wanna breed certain fish, ph will not pose a problem to your fishes' survival.

Try to use natural methods as much as possible... For example, use decor like bogwood, or dried leaf litter (idk if u can any type), or peat (in nylon bag). Don't use all those chemicals cos they are unstable and hard to use properly. For water changes, I assume you can put some peat, leaf litter, or bogwood into the bucket for a while. (And test to see if it is acidic enough yet, and eventually u will find out how long it takes for the bucket water to become acidic) ;)

another type of leaf you can use is indian almond leaves.  you can find them at some local fish stores (LFS) or online at ebay and amazon.  cheapest at LFS and ebay btw.
