plant accimalation

What would be considered an average amount of time for new plants to acclimate in a dirted tank? I have read that some stem plants will melt at the bottom for awhile and all that, but does anyone know about how long this carries on? I am new to the dirt phenomenon, I used to have some success with using a layer of peat and a layer of playground sand in years past. I just started a dirted tank with the miracle grow organic potting mix and very small size gravel cap. I'm just not having luck with most of my stem plants. My crypts and swords seem to be doing ok. Of course with starting this new tank a couple of weeks ago I am battling algae. I have not been running CO2 as most everyone agrees that the soil has enough nutrients in it. I did not add clay to the soil. I am scared to dose ferts right now because of the dirt.
Do I need to dose iron fert to help the stem plants at this time?
Any input would be great, I am new to this forum.

either float them until they have roots growing or if they already have them..just plant it.

 

I have success in the past doing that.

crypts have a tendency to melt then come back again

What stem plants are you running?

How much light are you using?

How heavy did you plant it?

Are you using some floaters/fast growing stems to out compete algae?
