Hi guys, I'm new to the hobby and new to this forum, I enjoy Dustin's videos so figured I'd sign up here

I was wondering if its possible to add a Plec in my tank that has 15 Red Cherry Shrimp in, its got a Sand substrate in, was also wondering if the Plec would be ok with that?

I was looking to buy a baby Plec and put it in there then move it to my bigger tank when he starts growing

Thanks for any advice!

what type of plec and what size is your tank and do you have live plants ?
its a nano tank, 25L probably around 20L after the sand ect, no live plants, and I'm not sure what plec yet, any opinions?

I would avoid putting a pleco in that tank it's far too small

if you have a bigger tank I would get either rubber pleco or bristlenose pleco they both get to around 5 inch most other pleco get massive so watch out when you buy one

I have a 30L tank with cherry shrimp and neons that's about the biggest fish I would put in it

you should defo get some live plants in there but at the very least put a load of moss in for the shrimp , it will help feed them keep them feeling safe and filter the water

ps. they breed best at 21 degrees C don't know what that is in F

There are lots of plecos that stay smaller, and will work in a community tank.  I have a Bristlenose in my 29 gallon.  He is about 4 1/2 inches long right now.  Bristlenoses have a voracious appetite for algae.  They also crap a lot!!  Make sure that you have enough bio filteration to handle it.  Male bristlenoses can be territorial and slightly aggressive.  The Bristlenose was very aggressive towards the Emperor pleco when I was waiting for my 16 gallon to cycle.  When my German Blue Ram goes after the algae wafers, the  Bristlenose pleco will run him off.

I also have an Emperor Pleco in my daughter's 16 gallon.  They need driftwood in the tank, as they do consume some wood in their diet. This fish is really cool looking in my opinion. I'm not sure if the species as a whole is shy, or just my fish.  He is rarely out in the open.

Both of these examples only get about six inches long.

I've got a black spiny pleco in my bigger tank (60L not sure what that is in gallons) I'm hoping to get a nice big tank soon

I was going to get a baby plec for my nano tank and once he gets to about 3inchs long move him to my bigger tank, at the moment my nano tank has 2 male guppies and the 15 RCS, will probably add 4 female guppies in there next weekend.
