Wondering of there are any signs of when an angelfish is pregnant. The last 2 days I've notice a change in one of my angel fish. It has become more shy and not swimming with the group as frequently and has  an extremely large belly. It seems to not eat as aggressively as it did and  wondering if it's pregnant. I have 4 angels but this is the only one out of the four with shorter fins, so I think it may be a female. I just don't want it to be sick. My tank temperature is around 73 and I run my light for the majority of the day. I feed them blood worms are flanks altering daily. I don't know if any of that helps but I'll be sure to answer any questions you may pose. Thanks again ftT.v!!

It seems that mr.angel has a bad liver and is bloated from water, i got home to her passing away. :( i turned off the lights and will let her rest until she has passed.

R.I.P.

Hey Ben, traits like short fins, color, etc are notoriously unreliable but experienced breeders do seem to have a knack for distinguishing between them IF they're adults. My group of 6 angels paired off when they reached about 3 inches. This is the only way I knew I had a female. Once paired the best method is the shape of the breeding tube - the female's has a large opening and the males is pointy. The male will also be the more aggressive and dominant of the two. He'll pick out a section of the tank and defend it against all comers. Occasionally he'll even discipline the female for no apparent reason.

I think its great that your feeding them bloodworms especially if they're live. If you really want your Angels to pair up and breed feed them earthworms. They'll go nuts. But make sure to use the Canadian Nightcrawler. I don't feed them red earthworms (aka red wriggler, compost worm, trout worm, Eisenses foetida sp?) for reasons I won't go into here.  Another great food is live mosquito larvae, blackwoms, and, of course, little fish.

Good luck. I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on some Altums this summer and throw them in my outdoor pond. They love the sunlight. I'm also looking at maybe getting some blue angels from some dude in Hungary.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
