After reading the very common question on here "What light should I get for my _____ tank" probably several hundred times I thought it might be a good idea to make a working list of what types of plants that we have kept successfully in what types of conditions. That way people planning out their tanks (for those of you crazy people that actually plant things) they can make a determination of what lighting would fit there plants needs the best....I know lots of websites and stores often label what type of light a plant should get but, they aren't always the most accurate and I'm interested to see what REAL people have been able to do...so here it goes...

20gal High / 24" t8 fixture with a t12 walmart plant bulb (LOW) ...yeah im that cool.

Crypts wendtii, spiralis

Amazon sword ozelot, rosette, vesuvius, common

Anubias nana

Crinum calamistrinum

Ludwigia repens

Tiger lotus

Najas grass

33gal Flatback / 36" Beamworks LED fixture (LOW)

Anubias Frazeri

Java Fern

Crypt wendtii

Amazon sword vesuvius, common

Jungle vallisneria

All of ^ these have been growing very well

Only plant I've really gave up on because it just wouldn't do well enough was Dwarf Hairgrass it just never grew and after a few months started looking nasty so i got rid of it.

fail.

Lol it is a really good idea to make a list of personal experiences tho

I agree with you peter and seth.  both fail and good idea, but most people dont want to put in the work.  Another thing I can forsee is not all light, substrate, water, bioload, filters, plants and ferts are created equal.  I've chatted with people who say they dont need any other ferts with their eco complete while i have so many plants in my tank it had such major deficiencies I HAD to buy ferts (or use dirt which is highly unconventional in my tank).  Kinda hard to sift through experiences and go with a basic range of data IMO.

ALTHOUGH I would love to read what peoples experiences are

Ill go second to you Seth :

Tank:  Sea Clear System II (50 Gallon)

built in wet/dry sump without bio balls.

True aquarium working space 39 gallons

Substrate:  Eco Complete 55 lbs.

Lighting:  Coralife 2 Dual lamp 34" Compact Florescent 95Watt

                  1 dual lamp 50/50  10,000K / Actinic Blue (peak @ 420nm)

(this equates to a theoretical max of 10Lumens/square inch

which is below very low light according to Rex's Guide )

     Plants:  Background - Anacharis

                                      Rotala rotundifolia

                                      Ludwigia Repens

                                      PennyWort

                                      Java Fern

                  Foreground -  Lutea Crypt

                                      Willis' Dwarf Crypt

                                      Rotala Rotundifolia

If you want to know why I think my plants are doing very well considering very low light according to "lumens/ square inch" then ask and Ill post a reply.  I just dont know how lengthy the reply may be.
