Severums in a Planted Tank?

I have a 150 SA tank with sand and a few pieces of driftwood. Tank occupants are 5 severum, 1 blue acara, emperor pleco and LFBN pleco. I was thinking about doing a planted tank. I have read severum will sometimes eat plants. Anyone out there had success with plants in a tank full of severums? If so what type of plants? I will need to change out the substrate and purchase new lighting if I decide to go for a planted tank. I'm just looking for opinions on the severum before I make any investment. Any advice is appreciated.

I think the digging up of the plants will be a concern as well as the consumption of the plants. From what I know, your best bet would be attatching some java fern and anubias to the driftwood itself, and skip the substrate planting. I think the plants will inevitably get dug up planted in the bottom. Attatching the plants to the driftwood will circumvent that problem, I like to use fishing line myself for this. Also, I have read from a few different sources that most fish will not eat the java fern, and it can tolerate a pretty wide range of water parameters, and I think anubias is similar. That would be your best be IMO. Hopefully that gets you going in the right direction. I can help you out on how to tie the plants to the driftwood if needed, just let me know buddy.

I had a convict jack depsey firemouth and severum in a planted tank but I bought all of them at the same time as small babies while the tank was aleady established. So that might have been the key.
