Hi guys, I've really been debating on whether or not I should use dirt in the new tank i'm getting. I'm planning on mostly putting hardy easy to care for plants in it. Also I've heard a lot of good and bad things about dirt. Dustin has obviously had a lot of success with it but others say (including the guy at my local pet shop) that dirt is just messy and clouds your tank. If i wasn't gonna put dirt in there I was thinking just Eco-complete. So what are your guys experience with dirt and would u recommend it or not?

My LFS guy ( who I trust) also advised against dirt. I have had nothing but great success with it. I guess amano's special soil would also work well, but a $2 bag of dirt seems like it would give it a run for its money. Maybe Dustin will do his mano Amano tank to find out.
it nice to hear that other peoples pet shop advised against it... I guess they just haven't watched dustins videos!
I've had no clouding or mess. Once its set up things just grow, and with the right lighting a dustin would say it grows shit house. lol The only problem with it is the set up its messy and takes awhile and the tea staining of the water is a bit annoying. it will take a little while for that to clear up but other then that its well worth it.
thanks for the comment i'm really reconsidering dirting my tank!
