Well spring break is just around the corner and I think I need a project. From what I have seen from Dustin, there doesn't seem to be any downsides to a dirted tank. So, I simply am looking for advice, suggestions or comments on my current situation -

I have a 20 gallon high aquarium that has been set up happily for about five years. And this spring break, I want to bring it back to life! It has done somewhat well with live plants in the past. I am currently running a 30watt light (1.5 watts per gallon) on it that usually stays on for about 9 or more hours a day. (This may explain where all my algae comes from! Not that I am compaining!) I am also running a penguin 150 filter on it rated for 20-30 gallon aquariums that has about 150 GPH. I have little to no fish in the aquarium but alot of trumpet snails!. The plants currently are 1 crypt and 1 unknown plant. (perhaps I will post in the other forum for a propername for this old plant of mine.) Note- I am not using any ferts as of now

So, here actually comes the forum topic, Should I consider converting to dirt?

my concerns:

1. What should i do for my fish when this process is taking place?

2.appox. amount of dirt will i need?

3. How badly will it effect my biology in the aquarium?

4. My gravel is about the same size but mostly smaller than a frozen pea. - Could the dirt start seeping up?

5. Which would be more apporpraite for me, dirt or something more like a DIY Co2 setup with ferts?

6. Any suggestions on types of plants that would be approprate?

Thanks for your help and suggestions and I hope i have given everyone the information they need to help me decide on creating a wonderfully planted aquarium. Here is a visual of its current tank. Please excuse the algae and the awful picture quality!

Thanks for the Reply Azwan, That looks like a very good video for me to follow. I have also heard it good to add in Clay pottery pieces or any type of clay material can anyone reccomend this?
