Hey

This summer I hope to get my aquarium up and running again.

I really like this "dirt" idea and want to try it. We have soft water here. (Years ago since I tested but then it was closer to 2 DH than 4) As I understand things this might cause me problems, partly because the water might become very acidic (if that's english), and partly because of the plants' need of calcium and maybe magnesium and stuff.

The question is if it can work anyway (choosing fish and plants carefully), or if I need to take special steps either in the initial setup or the maintenance or both...

Any thoughts?

I believe people add sea shells to their aquarium to make the water a bit harder they usually sell this stuff at any LFS
