I have a 36 gallon bow front aquarium. I want to dirt it. First I want to know if dirt runs out nutrients and needs to be changed. The dirt im using is Espoma organic potting soil. My local garden store did not carry this miricle grow organic soil. Secound I found volcanic lava rocks by a company made by Hoffman I was wondering if I could use that instead of clay to add iron, cuz I cannot find it. The lava rocks are clamied to hold water retention in the pot but im thinking if i crush them they might add iron when mixed in the soil. also how about eco-complete? is that any good? does that need to be replaced. Ive seen dustins videos where he mixed dirt with eco- complete and got bad results. also Im wondering if anyone has used Espoma organic soil for there tank.

You can get the clay from stores like micheals ... I've heard good and bad like dustins tank were everything melted but I've also heard alot of good I've just posted the same question about dirt and Eco mixed i hope it work I just ordered 60 pounds from petco they seem to have the best price I paid $55 for three bags and free shipping

a few people on here has dirt with eco complete...

lava rock isn't good ....they sell them as decor in a fish tank so crushing them would be a very BIG MESS.
