Well I bought one of those nice ceramic ones about a year ago...yeah it broke after a couple of months.  Since then I've been running a cheapy one with no problems.  So I think it's kind of a crapshoot.  Just looking to get either 2 small ones to put on each side of the tank or go with an inline one now.

If you're using a canister filter, look into ETH Hydor inline heaters. They run through your canister and isn't in the main display of the tank. If the price is too high, maybe look out for titanium heaters from Finnex, the best thing about them is you don't have to worry about it shattering like the glass ones. Also you control it from outside the tank and you don't need to get your hands wet to adjust the heater.

how many in line, or what watts one would you suggest for a soon to be 125g discus tank?
