Sword roots

Ok so I do expect most roots of a sword that I buy from a petstore to rot while it's adjusting to my tank and I haven't ever had baby swords rot yet. But my question is, is there anything that can be done to keep the rotting to a minimum? Most my swords are right next to my under gravel o2 um wand thingie. Lol but can it be over oxygenation that's causing the rot or the over nutrients from the dirt?
